Board Member - Finance & Fiduciary Oversight
Ensuring financial integrity, accountability, and long-term sustainability
This board member provides financial governance and oversight to ensure the organization maintains strong fiscal controls, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit best practices. They advise on budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness, supporting responsible stewardship of public and philanthropic funds. This role is critical to building trust with grantmakers, donors, and public agencies.
Board Member – Legal & Land-Use Affairs
Guiding governance, compliance, and public-land partnerships
This board member contributes legal expertise related to nonprofit governance, land use, environmental regulation, and public-sector partnerships. They support board-level decision-making on leases, agreements, liability, and compliance, helping ensure the organization operates responsibly within regulatory frameworks while advancing its mission.
Board Member – Historic Preservation & Cultural Resources
Safeguarding the site’s historical and cultural legacy
This board member brings expertise in historic preservation, cultural heritage, or interpretive planning. They help guide board decisions related to the protection, documentation, and respectful restoration of historically significant structures and cultural resources, ensuring the organization honors the site’s legacy while aligning with preservation standards and public-history best practices.
Board Member – Environmental Stewardship & Restoration
Protecting ecosystems through science-based governance
This board member provides environmental and ecological expertise to inform responsible stewardship of the natural landscape. They advise at a governance level on habitat protection, restoration principles, environmental compliance, and long-term conservation goals, supporting alignment with CEQA requirements and conservation best practices.
Board Member – Water Resources & Geothermal Stewardship
Ensuring responsible management of a sensitive natural resource
This board member contributes expertise in hydrology, water resources, or geothermal systems to support oversight of the site’s most critical natural asset. They advise the board on sustainable water use, monitoring approaches, and risk considerations, helping ensure long-term viability and environmental responsibility.

Bringing technical realism to restoration decisions
This board member offers expertise in architecture, engineering, or historic structures. They support board-level evaluation of restoration feasibility, structural integrity, and long-term maintenance considerations, helping the organization make informed, responsible decisions regarding historic buildings and infrastructure.
